There’s still plenty of nice weather left, so here are a few ideas to take advantage of every minute.
-Play ball. Get some friends together for a game of wiffle ball, kickball, soccer, volleyball, tennis or whatever you’re into.
-Have a movie night. Get a ton of friends together to watch movies and eat pizza. Pick a recent hit, a cheesy horror flick or a classic.
-Go to the drive-in. There's still time for this classic activity. Sunset Drive-in in Colchester shows double features on four screens and is open every night. See the options here: www.sunsetdrivein.com.
-Watch classics on the big screen. Paramount Theater in Rutland shows movies from the American Film Institute’s top 100 films of all time. See the schedule here: http://www.paramountvt.org/filmseries.php.
-Bust out the board games. Twister, anyone?
-Fire up the grill. Get creative and try a throwing a few out-of-the-ordinary things on the grill. Pizza? Sure. Grill the (olive oiled) dough on one side, flip it, add toppings. Give beef a rest and make salmon, black bean, or chicken burgers. Or try fruit: pineapple, peaches, mango, whatever.
-Play tourist in Stowe. The ritzy mountain town doesn’t have to be expensive. Stop at the Cabot Annex Store and Cold Hollow Cider Mill to fill up on free samples. Hit the bike path, taking swimming stops in the Little River.
-Go thrift shopping. Hit some of the Burlington area’s thrift stores with a friend and pick out entire outfits for each other.
-Go night hiking. Wait for a full moon, then head up a mountain. Mount Mansfield has several cabins along the Long Trail you can stay in overnight, and the view from the top by moonlight is unbeatable. Just make sure to bring headlamps or flashlights.
-Check out the Green Mountain Derby Dames. Watch girls on skates beat the crap out of each other. Check out their calendar here: www.gmderbydames.com.
-Get out of your corner of Vermont. Get a bunch of friends together and go check out a different part of the state. Vermont’s 52 state parks are a great way to explore, check out all the different ones here: www.vtstateparks.com. Just keep in mind that many parks require at least one person to be 18.
-Get out of Vermont entirely. There are a lot of great activities just across the state lines. Try hiking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire or paddle around Saranac Lake in New York. Go to the coast for a weekend with some friends, or head to Montreal or Boston.
