What were your best and worst moments of the season? Our season has varied quite a bit this year. We’ve had some incredible games, where we’ve just connected as a team and passed and talked to each other all over the field. We tied CVU this year, which was really exciting. We went into overtime and Jackie (our left wing) and I had so many breaks down the field. It was so close. You could hear the spectators’ cheering rise and fall.
Another great game was the one we played at Mount Abraham. It was pouring rain, and by halftime these huge, mucky puddles had gathered in front of each goal and all along one side of the field. The weather was miserable, but I felt like our team really got it together. There were some fantastic flat and leading passes, and a lot of communication and vision of the field especially in the second half. Defense also played great and our goalie, Jess, had a shutout. The best part of that game was definitely when Sierra (our center forward) dove across one of the enormous mud puddles to score our third goal.
As a team we’ve only had one real low point this year, and that was in an away game against Mount Mansfield Union. We just didn’t work as a team, and it really hurt us. There was a little bit of bickering on the field, and a lot of us (including me) just didn’t come to the field with much focus or intensity. Everyone was pretty upset afterwards. We had a big team meeting, though, and after that we worked out the kinks and really picked it up for the rest of the season.
Do you play other sports? Which is your favorite? I play tennis in the spring and Nordic ski in the winter. Field hockey is definitely my favorite sport, but I absolutely love Nordic, too. I joined the team sophomore year and just fell in love. Skate races are my favorite — they’re so fast. Plus, it’s a fantastic group of kids. Everyone is so funny and nice. Nordic season is always fantastically fun.
Do you plan to play in college? Yes. I’ve actually been involved in the recruiting process for a few years, and I just recently committed to the Harvard field hockey team for next year. I’m so excited!
Who is your favorite athlete? Katelyn Falgowski, a member of the USA Field Hockey National Team. I got the chance to meet her a few years ago at a UNC camp. She's an incredible player, and a total sweetheart. She used to play for UNC and has been a defender on the national squad since 2006.
What other activities do you do? I spend a lot of my time writing and singing/playing original music on the piano. I just finished recording a CD, which is really exciting. Music is a huge part of my life. I also like to write fiction -- I hang out in my room a lot, writing stories or drawing characters from those stories. Also, of course, I love hanging out with my friends. We play a lot of music together, at CHS Coffeehouses and places like that, and my friend and I are trying to start a music duo.
What is your least favorite school subject? That's tough. I guess I'm not much of a fan of physics. Too many calculations.
If you could just know one language without having to learn it, what would it be? Definitely Japanese. I absolutely love Japanese culture and want to travel to Japan someday, but the grammatical structure is really difficult to learn (everything is inverted!).

What were your best and worst moments of the season? Just getting back onto the field was the best moment of the season. Last year I tore my meniscus and was out for ten months. Overall it was a good season.
Do you play other sports? Which is your favorite? During the winter I ski race for the Mount Mansfield Winter Academy, that’s probably my favorite sport. But other than that I have played lacrosse, hockey and baseball.
Do you plan to play in college? I would like to ski in college.
Who is your favorite athlete? There are a lot: Daron Rhalves, Lance Armstrong, Didier Cuche, John Terry, Mike Lowell, there are definitely some more.
What other activities do you do? During the school year, homework. During other times whatever takes me off of the couch.
What is your least favorite school subject? English, writing really isn’t my thing.
If you could just know one language without having learning it, what would it be? Every language, but the top one would be French.
If you could communicate with one animal, what would it be? Wolf.
Name something that really annoys you. Complainers, they don’t stop...
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Chicken Lo Mein.
If you could be a celebrity for a day, who would you be? John Mayer.
If you had to get a tattoo, what would you get? Grateful Dead, Steal Your Face.
From his coach, Jamie Birmingham: He is an accomplished ski racer and a hard working soccer player. He blew out his knee last October (ACL/MCL) playing soccer and had reconstructive surgery. He was unable to ski all year and was only able to begin physical therapy in the spring. He is now playing soccer at 100% and is looking forward to racing again in the winter. Coming back from such a devastating injury is a lot of work— both physically and mentally. I think he deserves some recognition for this accomplishment. His grades are also off the charts good.
