A St. Johnsbury Academy student took the top honors in the 29th Annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students.
Holly Greenleaf’s winning piece, entitled “Milking Time” is headed to Washington, D.C. for an exhibit featuring the artwork of students across the country.
Students from 38 Vermont high schools submitted 175 pieces to the competition, held May 10 in Montpelier. Representative Peter Welch hosted the event.
Ian Costello, a Colchester High School student whose piece, "Urban Landscape," is shown above, took second place and Matthew Bjornson from Woodstock High School came in third.
Honorable mentions went to Kay Busch of Essex High School, Chloe Dickinson from Woodstock High School and Leah Wulfman from Burr and Burton Academy.
Students Anna Quinlan, Caroline Wells and Daniel Lloyd-Miller won a judge’s choice awards.
Students Meghan Audette, Ellen Watkins, Faith Darling, Caroline Manahan, Erika McCormick, Olivia Drown, Emily Misnick, Erica Endrusick, Johanna Albertson, Heather Davis, Kelsey Wells and Kate Candon won congressman’s choice awards.
