KEEPING YOURSELF SAFE

The Internet is a valuable resource for finding jobs, internships, information, and connections. There is a risk, however, when dealing with people you don’t know. Follow these guidelines when using our Classifieds section to keep yourself safe.
-Deal locally. This is a local site, keep an eye out for people contacting you from outside of your town or area.
-This is a site for young adults. Be careful dealing with someone who is not your age.
-Always meet in a public place during the day, with another person. Never meet someone you don’t know alone.
-Do not give out personal information to strangers.
-Do not let someone come to your house. Do not give them your address.
-Cash is the most reliable form of payment when dealing with strangers. Be wary of money orders, wire transfers, and even personal checks.
-Trust your instincts. If something seems suspicious, move on.

When you are buying or selling things, be wary of scams. Here are a few things to look out for:
-Buyers and sellers out of your area.
-Checks, money orders, or wire transfers from other countries.
-People who claim they accidently sent a check for too much and want you to send them the difference.
-Requests for help from strangers.
-People sending an employee or “mover” to pick something up. People who ask you to ship the product. If the person won’t agree to meet in person, it’s probably a scam.
