More than 15 skiers and snowboarders turned out for the Battle for Burlington High School Throwdown at Bolton on Feb. 20, despite a freezing rain that covered everything with an icy crust in minutes.
This year’s winner in the snowboard competition was TJ King, from BFA-St. Albans. Will Hibbs from CVU won in the skiing category.
“It was pretty sweet,” King said. “It’s a great event to compete in. Every year I do a little better.”
King took home a 2010 Burton Snowboard.
“It’s tight,” King said of his snowboard. “I definitely needed it. My last deck was trashed.”
Battle for Burlington, which began in 2006, is a grassroots event series featuring local talent from high schools and colleges. It hosts rail jams and slopestyle competitions at Stowe, Bolton, Sugarbush and Jay Peak every year.
“It was sick, even though the weather sucked,” said second-place snowboarder Dylan Peters, 16.
